SCHINNEN, Netherlands Aca,!" U.S. Army Garrison Schinnen is one of eight finalists Army-wide selected by Installation Management Command to receive a site visit in October or November and compete for top honors in the 2010 Army Communities of Excellence competition.
In the past two years, USAG Schinnen has achieved recognition in the esteemed ACOE competition. USAG Schinnen was named Most Improved Garrison in 2009 and awarded $200,000. Winning ACOE top honors, or Aca,!EoegoldAca,!a,,c level of recognition, will fetch $1 million.

USAG Schinnen provides base operations support to joint, interagency and international communities to support U.S. interests in NATO throughout northern Germany and the Netherlands Aca,!" the largest area of responsibility in the IMCOM-Europe region.
Aca,!A"Team Schinnen has reached full stride with respect to Baldrige implementation and the team is motivated to doing even better this year. The Army Communities of Excellence panel is comprised of five senior Baldrige examiners and judges from private, non-profit and government organizations. Earning Malcom Baldrige recognition is the corporate worldAca,!a,,cs gold standard for organizational excellence. Judges use set criteria to evaluate processes to ensure they best serve stakeholders and achieve efficiencies. ACOE Team will conduct a one-week site visit to determine the Army Communities of Excellence Gold, Silver and Bronze Award nominees.
Lt. Col. Sumpter credits the USAG Schinnen staff for going the extra mile in everything they do.
"Last year, when we won the Most Improved category, I knew in my heart that we were ready to really compete. Team Schinnen is awesome and I am blessed to be a part of such a wonderful team of competent professionals who just want to do their best for Soldiers and their families," Sumpter said.
Aca,!A"The PAIO staff, headed by Ms. Connie Andrews, has been exceptional in leading the garrison down the ACOE path, helping to take the staff to the next level in the ACOE competition. Many members of the garrison staff have played a key role in getting us to where we are today. It is because of everyoneAca,!a,,cs effort as a team that the garrison is able to compete with the other superb garrisons in the competition,Aca,!A? Sumpter said.
The top Aca,!A"goldAca,!A? garrison in the ACOE competition receives $1 million. Two silver awardees receive $500,000 each. Three bronze awardees receive $250,000 each.
The seven garrisons competing with USAG Schinnen for the top prize and who will also receive a site visit in October or November are USAG Fort Bragg, USAG Fort Campbell, USAG-Yongsan, USAG Daegu USAG Fort Hood, USAG Fort Meade, and USAG Fort Leavenworth.
The 2010 ACOE competition also presents cash prizes to three to six "Most Improved" garrisons. Garrisons competing in this category are: USAG Aberdeen Proving Ground, USAG Fort Leonard Wood, USAG Adelphi, USAG Fort Polk, USAG Fort Carson, USAG Presidio of Monterey, USAG Fort Detrick, USAG Redstone Arsenal, USAG Detroit Arsenal, USAG Fort Richardson, USAG Fort Drum, USAG Rock Island Arsenal, USAG Japan and USAG Fort Rucker.
