For 150 years, Wayne State has been preparing students toexcel and make a positive impact in the world. Its 13 schools and collegesoffer more than 350 academic and certificate programs for graduates andundergraduates.
Faculty members revered for their innovative educationalapproaches, accomplishments and real-world expertise provide life-changingmentorship in and out of the classroom. Recognized by the Carnegie Foundation with its highestclassification for research, WSU is at the forefront of STEM education and itsgraduates are leaders in science and engineering flied. The College ofEngineering has more than 50 engineering and computer science degree andcertificate programs. It was the first in the nation to launch an alternativeenergy technology master’s degree and certificate, and the college is home tothe first electric-drive vehicle engineering program in the U.S. In November,the college received a $1 million gift to create a new center for global engineeringeducation.
U.S. News & WorldReport listed WSU as one of the nation’s best global universities, placingits programs in nursing, chemistry, clinical psychology, fine arts,occupational therapy, pharmacy, social work and more in the top 50 percent inthe nation.
Wayne State students come from the local community, nearlyevery state, 80 countries and a wide array of cultures and socioeconomicbackgrounds, resulting in Michigan’s most diverse campus community. Nearly1,700 international students study at WSU, with the largest number of studentscoming from India, followed by Canada and China. Bringing together uniqueviewpoints is essential to furthering knowledge, and the university’s 27,000 studentsare encouraged to collaborate and celebrate their differences.
While Wayne State provides students with a traditionalcollege experience of living in a residence hall, working out in the recreationand fitness center, studying in one of five libraries or joining any of morethan 400 student organizations, its urban location gives it its uniquecharacter and opens the door to exciting opportunities. Wayne State studentsare at the threshold of the nation’s best hospitals, international corporationsand law firms. They take part in performances in the second-largest theatredistrict in the United States and cheer on professional teams in every sport.

Wayne State University is an SAT / ACT optional university for most of its undergraduate programs and has 13 schools and colleges, each is distinct and contributes uniquely to its field of focus, providing a place where general excellence turns into specific expertise. Undergraduate programs are offered in many areas.

The Graduate School at Wayne State University advances graduate education and cultivates a supportive environment for research, scholarly activities and other creative endeavors that are integral to successful graduate students, faculty members and programs. It assures the quality and integrity of graduate programs and monitors the academic requirements for Ph.D. degrees, specific master’s degrees and graduate certificates.
The Graduate School administers and regulates funds that support graduate studies and disseminates information related to graduate programs and policies. The school hosts the Graduate and Postdoctoral Research Symposium, encouraging postdoctoral fellows, doctoral and master’s students to share their research experiences across disciplines. Professional development seminars on topics such as the academic job search and career choices for students in the humanities are regularly offered, and assistance is available for doctoral students and postdocs interested in exploring careers beyond academia.
Wayne State’s designation within the classification of research universities with very high research activity is reflective of a deep commitment to excellence in graduate education, relevance in academic curriculum, and leadership in research and scholarship.
